Review of Grave Encounters (2011) by Mike J — 21 Mar 2013
This was really entertaining, which is what this movie sought out to do. I like the "reality horror" genre quite a bit and this one certainly did some interesting things with it. I like that it had a more gradual buildup and the characters slowly become insane over the course of the movie.
I could have done without the "monster" scenes as those were really only in there for the squeal factor, but the mood of the film was maintained and the mystery and insanity of the asylum very intriguing.
I watch a lot of horror flicks and I can saw that this is one of the better ones I've seen. Keep in mind - these kinds of movies are not meant to carry some kind of deep, philosophical message. This movie was to entertain its audience, which I believe it does.
