Review of Grave Encounters 2 (2012) by Richard C — 21 Oct 2012

Almost plays as two separate films, one investigative journalistic doc into the sensation that was Grave Encounters with a series of burgeoning filmmakers to see if it was for real or not, and attempting to turn the found footage film formula on his head, before turning into a found footage film in itself once they arrive on the scene at the mental institution where all hell breaks loose.

The film indeed has some strong moments and its really cool how they have incorporated a series of the youtube critics on the original film into the opening of the sequel to introduce us to the lead character of the piece.

Also the references the guys do for some of the new millenia horror staples and such as they do their side projects before departing is also somewhat fun as well. But in terms of the star power of the project is the actual production value in the visuals.

There seems to be a lot of investment to give us varying degrees of stock that actual has a great sheen to it that is normally lacking in these sort of projects whether intential or not. Might benefit from some trimming but other wise for this subgenre it was fairly entertaining.
