Review of Grandma's Boy (2006) by Patrick S — 21 Mar 2010
So there was this minor feud between two friends of mine about a year and a half ago about Grandma's Boy. One was like "Grandmas Boy is so awesome!" and then the other saw it and he was like "This is stupid and you're stupid!" and the other guy was like "What, no way! I bet Patrick would like it! and he was like "He likes bad movies and hates good movies, of course he would like this!" and I was like "Why am I in the middle of this!" So the time as come to watch this movie and pick a side! The time has come to choose a friend to belatedly support in this battle! Unfortunately, I forgot who was on what side though....eh, I'm sure it's not important.
Anyways, this movie literally makes you like it through brute force. It knocks you over with and punches you in the face again and again and again until it starts to become likable around an hour in. Before then, it may have a few moments of hilarity but it's bogged down with weak acting that Rob Schneider and David Spade don't suck in comparison, painful dialogue, and gratuitous drug jokes but after the hour mark, something clicks and everything makes sense for some reason. I don't know why, granted there's a monkey in there but he's not on long enough for me to like it solely for that...but then again he did drive a car. The point is that the last half hour almost makes up for the first hour and it's something that I almost recommend for reasons unknown to me except that it was entertaining.
