Great mindless humor. I'd never say it's anywhere close to serious or deep. But if you're a fan, then I think you know why I know why you know it's just a great movie. It's silly and the characters are ridiculous and lovable. It's a simple film with a very standard plot that was easy to follow simply to cater to a larger underrated demographic. Which is proven by the audience rating (over 200k ratings... that's well over 9000).Critics throw the film away as crude and unnecessary, but damn did they know how to hook us and make us giggle stupidly every time. Also Blazing Saddles (it popped up earlier today, and it's been a while for one of the best comedies of all time, and I think everyone should watch it, and then Grandma's Boy). I think I'll watch both tomorrow. Recovery from spine surgery so I have enough time.

But I digress, even though critics remained as PC and anachronistic in their reviews, the audience rating shows that it was a generally accepted film. Yes there's the whole marijuana thing, but the massive audience approval includes smokers and non-smokers. To not take into account popular majority is like our voting system. It just doesn't reflect the quality (for many fans this film is truly endearing... whether it was your first or 3000th time watching it). Placing it in a cult classic category is accurate, but my only problem are the many critical reviews that refuse to take into account a massive demographic that just so happen to also smoke pot. It's 2012. This is embarrassing. This is offensive, yet it's okay to re-release Titanic in 3D? To put that to perspective, if you're 13 and your birthday is on August 13 - or possibly the week before and numerous weeks after - there's moderately decent chance your conception had some help from the original release of that piece of crap. And at least it's in 2D so you can be less involved if you're forced through a viewing.

But in the end it's really just a shame that silly and simple childish humor can be so quickly ignored because dwugs awe bayad. Sure Hitler was a pretty unsavory guy, but you can't say he didn't give a hell of a speech (he rallied an entire nation with it). And it's no different than the childishness of the Three Stooges in its time. Some things are inherently bad, and some good, but using pigeon logic** to enforce poor judgement does not make the argument "This movie is simple, childish, and crude" does as much to review a movie than watching the trailer and calling it a day. It's bad enough that nothing new is coming to the big screen anymore, but nobody focuses on the painful lack of originality available to the masses more readily and often then the almost consistent reorganized garbage.

As someone who loves movies, it's awful to see these overwhelmingly positive reviews for either sloppy sequels or movies that have already been made, loved, adored, and forgotten. It's rehash and re-image. The public should be receiving new stories, new characters, new ideas. Revamps should be a rarity, not the norm. Although you bet a Grandma's Boy sequel will be amazing. Just gotta get it done before anyone dies on us. Well now that I've brought that back to the film in comment, I'm passing out. Haters come hate.

** Pigeon Logic - When arguing with someone using sound reason and logic and they argue saying they're right because they say so, therefore they win. It's like playing chess with a pigeon. No matter how good you are and how well you play, the pigeon is just going to knock over your king, crap all over the place, and strut around in victory.
