Review of Grand Prix (1966) by Gavin T — 03 Sep 2009
Grand Prix casts a long shadow over sporting films as a genre. It's appeal extends beyond race fans, speaking to the heart of sport in general. Unlike the Fast and Furious franchise that has dominated car movies as of late, this depiction of 60s F1 racing is raw and pure. The sport back then was dangerous enough, and the lifestyle of a pro racer was stressful enough that the writers didn't need to weave in drug lords, stolen big-rigs or any of that sort of nonsense.
Beautiful movie. See it.
