Review of Grand Prix (1966) by Paul A — 06 Apr 2011
Still the best and most realistic racing footage ever in a movie = 5.0 stars.
The story does a reasonable job of addressing the tenuous existence of world championship-level drivers in Formula 1, e.g. the lack of job security and the fatalistic nature of the sport (particularly during the period the film was made). It falters somewhat with the romantic entanglements and stereotypical characters layered on top of the racing, so it gets downgraded 1 star.
Absolutely a must see for fans of Formula 1 or just racing in general.
