Review of Grand Piano (2013) by Will B — 28 Apr 2014
It is very hard to put words to this movie. It was edge of my seat entertainment, it was thrilling, it was really good. Not many good suspense films come out anymore, at least not ones that can really hold you by the throat and choke you.
The acting is phenomenal especially by Wood. He is up there playing this piano and doing all this other reactions to just a voice. John Cusack, even though only heard for 90% of his role through a ear piece, is amazing. The shock was the realization half way through and noticing Alex Winter (Lost Boys fandom and Bill and Ted) was the henchman. He also was a great addition to the cast even though he is not in as much as his co stars.
The cinematography is the winner here. The camera angles and swoops across the audience, the tense focus on the piano and the fast playing to stay alive. It was expertly shot with some tricks that the eye doesn't catch at first that almost throws you off completely to make you double take.
I don't want to ramble and risk ruining the movie but I will highly recommend this to many people who love a good thriller.
