Review of Grand Hotel (2008) by Lee B — 04 Oct 2008
A showcase for Hollywood's finest, set over one night in a Berlin hotel. Intertwining storylines make this a benchmark of the episodic movie. Greta Garbo, perfectly cast as a lonely prima ballerina, is mesmerising as always.
Her love scenes with John Barrymore are touching and tender. A young Joan Crawford also puts in a fine performance as an ambitious stenographer, and Lionel Barrymore is first among the stellar supporting actors.
