Review of Grand Hotel (2008) by Mark S — 09 Jan 2012
Very dated but in quite a quaint fashion. Legendary line aside, Greta Garbo doesn't come out of it too well, giving a hyperactive and grating performance and being ill-advisedly cast as a ballerina.
But I liked both John Barrymore (who I've never seen in anything before) and Joan Crawford, who I've never seen so young and who arguably steals the show as the worldly-wise but essentially moralistic stenographer who dreams of bettering herself even if she gets a little dirty on the way up.
