Review of Grand Hotel (1932) by Joe L — 06 Dec 2008
Usually movies with too many heavyweight stars cancel each other out - but this plays like an altman film with separate, sometimes overlapping plots to keep it from feeling like a mishmash. beautifully photographed, and quite a revelation to see joan crawford in her pre-psychotic days.
she reminded me so much of kat dennings - smart, beautiful, snappy, and not taking shit from anyone. this also seems to be the source for the 'i want to be alone' line most associated with garbo.
