Review of Grand Canyon (1991) by Heather M — 21 Jul 2007
I agree with many reviewers that this is like Crash. It's just as racially stereotypical and out of touch with life. All young black men have to be involved in gang violence according to most moviemakers' logic.
I feel like Kasdan was trying to write a politically correct film about racial tensions in the early 90s after seeing superior ones done by black directors like Spike Lee's Do The Right Thing and John Singleton's Boyz in the Hood.
But Kasdan has no experience with a lot of the communities he's writing and directing about so the film comes off as cliche and trite.
