Review of Gran Torino (2008) by Stephen Z — 25 May 2015
Who would've guessed that Clint Eastwood has a soft side? Though he's best known for his action films, Eastwood shows his capacity to direct and act in a dramatic film in "Gran Torino". The touching performance provided by Eastwood is the real highlight of this film. It pays homage to his past, tough-guy characters, while bringing something new. I also like the performance of Bee Vang (Thao), and I really like the performance of Ahney Her (Sue). Though the movie is well-written, it is these performances that make "Gran Torino" such a good film. I love the evolution of Eastwood's character from a racist, hateful man to a man who truly cares about his neighbors.
If you're a Clint Eastwood fan, you'll really enjoy "Gran Torino", but you'll never see the ending coming. This is simply one of Eastwood's best films of his career.
