Review of Gran Torino (2008) by Russell G — 25 Aug 2012
This was an excellent movie. This may be both Clint Eastwood's best acting and directorial effort. Like no one else can, he plays a bitter grumpy old man who is tough as nails and takes crap off of no one.
Clint may be old but he is still one tough dude that you do not want to mess with, and he sure shows it in this. His character turns out not be as hateful as we first thought and there is a beautiful transformation of his character.
The movie has far more smiles, laughs and heartwarming parts than I expected, but it is still full of emotional intensity. This is a powerful movie about a man finding a new purpose and meaning in his old age.
It is so compelling to watch the bitterness fade in from Eastwoodâ(TM)s character as he reluctantly finds an unexpected new family. The characters and situations are extremely well developed and seem very realistic.
Viewers will connect the characters and become emotionally invested in them in a way very few movies achieve. This is a classic and is the kind of movie worth re-watching time and time again.
