Review of Gran Torino (2008) by Kong M — 21 Dec 2012
The first and only major cinematic movie to be released in wide theaters about Hmong People, and it was a complete let down. Not to say that it was a horrible movie, but more of a major disappointment.
Once again, America makes an attempt to try and interpret the Hmong culture, only to resort to stereotypical ideals around common practices some of which aren't even accurate or relevant. None of the actors felt natural with their characters.
Instead the dialog feels forced, the actors feel lost, and most again play to stereotypes than natural individuals. The plot also feels redundant and lost providing me with nothing to remember. Im not understanding what the critics are seeing.
