Review of Gran Torino (2008) by Barrie Q — 21 Apr 2013
It is incredible that this was overlooked for Oscar nominations. Eastwood is magnificent as both lead actor and director. The plot maybe somewhat formulaic; cranky old man hates his neighbours, grows to get along with them, and finally befriends them. That said, Eastwood's acting and direction keep the plot moving along efficiently and it never drags.
Definitely one to see whenever you get the chance. Incidentally, the Gran Torino of the title refers to a car, and not a computer game as I was told by a taxi driver one day. I'm not even sure there is a computer game called Gran Torino.
