Review of Gracie (2007) by Bernard O — 19 Sep 2007
Basically the definition of a predictable, cliche sports movie. Schroeder gives a decent performance as the lead, bringing an edgy atmosphere to the character that I didn't expect. Nevertheless I didn't find myself really compelled to root for this character.
Someone who cries when she gets knocked down or curses at her coach doesn't deserve to make the team and, I hope, won't succeed. Mulroney and, stunningly, Elisabeth Shue (whom the film is based on) both give pretty apathetic seeming performances.
For positives it's pretty well shot and edited with a great sampling of 70s music for the soundtrack. Here's hoping that Goal II: Living the Dream is better than this...
