Review of Grace of Monaco (2014) by Meredith W — 07 Jun 2014
I was not expecting a lot from this movie. Perhaps that is why I was enjoyed it, in parts. I previously knew nothing of the political dispute between Monaco's Prince Rainier III and France's Général Charles De Gaulle, and a looming French invasion of Monaco in the early 1960s, so enjoyed this storyline.
Tim Roth is impressive as the complicated Prince Rainier, but as Grace Kelly, Nicole Kidman, largely misses the mark. Admittedly, this is largely due to her miscasting. The scenery and production are quite beautiful and glamorous, however, it also lacks sophistication in foreshadowing (red herring or otherwise).
