Review of Grace Is Gone (2007) by Kien P — 07 Jun 2008
Not terribly well directed. The screenplay is wonderfully written, and John Cusack is fantastic, but Strouse's direction just hurts the film. Granted, it's a great attempt for a first time director, however, a screenplay this strong just needed a seasoned director to bring out it's full potential.
Several moments work quite well: the cigarette scene was touching, and Cusack's calls home to the answering machine were heartbreaking. It just needed to be paced better, and it could have been quite impressive.
