Review of Gozu (2003) by Tom E — 04 Aug 2007
Before watching this movie I had heard a mixed reception on one hand I have a friend that worships Takashi Miikes work but I also have friends that feel his work is a little confusing and has a distinct lack of direction.
now after seeing this film I agree with both those statements Miike does not shy away from the extreme and I admire that in a director he is not affraid to challenge boundaries that could be deemed unapproachable, this movie confused me alot which if you read the synopsis shouldnt really happen but the story pulls you in and out of real life situations into the deranged characters delusions leaving you wondering whether what you just witnessed actually happend.
this is a must see movie for anyone with and open imagination and the ending will definately have you on the end of your seat screaming at your tv. certainly not for the faint of heart and people that may be easily offended but as like all Miike films you should expect the unexpected.
