Review of Gozu (2003) by James H — 19 Feb 2008
This movie is odd. In all honesty I only watched it because I had a free ticket. In purely visual terms, it is beautiful, by turns disturbing and engaging. I found the shifts between the surreal and mundane a little too clumsy for me to surrender totally to the experience, so I came away having felt like I saw two films. One was a gangster flick, the other an eerie freakshow.
Worth seeing for the intro scene, the one with the dog. Absolute genius. Makes no sense, but genius all the same.
