Review of Gozu (2003) by Eric R — 09 Oct 2009
One of the most demented films in Takashi Miike's collection. This movie is made like anyone of his classics. It starts off normal, yet slow. Then leaves an overall creepy feel throughout. Soon the film gets interesting and very strange until the end where it is so demented you think, "this is a Takashi Miike film".
Now this would have to be the most twisted Yakuza movie ever made. You may see even see a special appearance from Renji Ishibashi who also played the Yakuza in the movie, "The Bird People In China"; also a Takashi Miike film.
Hideki Sone plays the main role of Minami. He loses a brother from his crew. Then just goes through a series of mind piercing events created by Takashi Miike's brain and direction. He later meets Kimika Yoshino; who will make you never have the same thought about a woman again.
For Miike fans, this is a must to watch. For non fans, this could be up on your list of one of the strangest movies you have ever seen.
