Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Chanel M — 12 Dec 2010
Again I have to disagree with the majority view. I didn't find the plot confusing or slow - on the contrary I was fascinated by the blurring of fact and fiction, and went away afterward to find out more about Goya's real role in the events of the time.
This was 'The Horrors of War' and Goya's other realistic / grotesque paintings brought to life. The cinematography is beautiful, even while the subject matter is often horrible. Bardem is always good value, and the whole story and its enactment very plausible.
Worth watching even for tiny snippets like the production onscreen of a copper plate etching. Well done Mr Forman.
