Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Tom T — 26 May 2008
The film looks OK, but as already mentioned, it aint a film about Goya at all. And that puts the whole historical context into question.
How much of this is supposedly based on real-life and how much is simply made up.
And while it looks very nice and is well shot, and even the characters well-developed and protrayed, it just doesn't grab you, because you don't know what it's meant to be about.
The inquisition, (or the rebirth of): the evilness of the priesthood, the fickelness of man, a portrait of democratic europe?
Eh, perhaps just that, a snapshot of a time period. But then why the title and the intensely personal stories?
You can tell I was left a little confused...
