Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Raphaël B — 19 Jun 2008
Irritatingly unfocused; I realize that the Goya character is what ties all of the subplots together, but just when I'm getting into the Javier Bardem and Natalie Portman characters' stories, the movie switches back to Goya, who is rather insignificant to the story other than the fact that he happens to know everyone else in the film.
Not to mention the fact that his paintings / perspectives on the issues of the time are completely glossed over, making his character completely superfluous. Rather dissatisfying and meandering on the whole.
