Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Oliver C — 27 Jul 2008
Goya suffered from witnessing several upheavals in Spain from the inquisition's height through to the revolution and the reinstallation of The Catholic orthodoxy and eventually spiraled out of control having witnessed too much.
The focus, as many have stated is less biographical than in capturing the atmosphere of church and state before and after Napoleon's influence, and the 'ghosts' which terrorized Goya's imagination and brought him to the pinnacle of his craft.
