Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Tasha A — 01 Sep 2008
This was a gorgeous historical drama, with Stellen Skarsgard playing Goya, Natalie Portman as his muse who is put to the question and imprisoned by the Spanish Inquistion, and a really creepy Javier Bardem as the monk who fathers a child on Natalie whilst she's in prison, is banished from the Church, and comes back as the representative of the French Revolution in Spain. Wonderful costumes, etc. The plot was much better than I was expecting; I liked the way everything came full circle, and was linked through Goya's artwork (and even brought in some Bosch).
Watch - and enjoy it for the lavish spectacle it is.
