Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Karine M — 02 Dec 2008
Director Milos Forman has made some excellent period costume dramas, unfortunately this isn't one of them. A great cast (though Javier Bardem struggles a bit with his English) and superb period production design are wasted on a melodramatic, disjointed story that plods along, stretching credibility at every turn.
The Spanish Inquisition - as well as Goya himself - are very interesting subjects, but this film fails to do anything with them. A major disappointment.
