Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Krishna B — 30 Jun 2009
Instead of reinventing the wheel, I'll just call it what someone else called it perfectly: A Bleak Masterpiece. Three great actors, Javier Bardem, Natalie Portman and Stellan Skasgard, a story so intricately wrapped in layers of irony, and a defining tale of 'the evil that men do'.
Brought to you by the same guy who directed 'one flew over the cuckoo's nest', the direction raises your hopes precisely at the moment when you think you can't bear any more of the character's misery, and crashes it down every single time! Some scenes, especially when Javier's character is put to 'The Question' are so poetically poignant.
