Shocking, yet not gratuitously violent. Somewhat subtle, yet not pretentious. Excellent performances from the actors. I felt moved by the story, immersed in the time, and connected to the characters. A very good film.
The ending left something to be desired, however. It ended quite abruptly without resolving many of the conflicts that had been built up...
