Review of Goya's Ghosts (2006) by Sylvia G — 07 Sep 2009
The film attempts to embrace a long period of time in history and thus making the story itself way too long - unnecessarily. Consequently, it looses its intensity and pace that it picked up in the beginning.
Apart from this, the film portrays the Spanish Inquisition very well and manages to ridicule the practices of the Orthodox Catholic Church. Javier Bardem is excellent; N. Portman does a great job too (although I didn't like her being cast for the role of her own daughter).
