An astoundlingly intense, deeply involving, visually beautiful and emotionally overwhelming masterpiece. In my opinion so far the greatest movie of the 21st century. but then movies peaked in 1939, didn't they? and that was eighty years ago, wasn't it? Am I writing footnotes to footnotes?
