Review of Gotti (2018) by Robert M — 08 Jul 2018
Although Gotti, a movie nearly 10 years in the making from conception to release, isn't the shameful atrocity many claim, it does leave you with a bitter taste when you consider what could've been if ego had been put aside.
Al Pacino and Joe Pesci are still credited actors in the film, despite not being a part of it in any way. When I first heard Travolta, Pacino and Pesci were coming together for a film, it gave me chills, but this was 2010, and now it's 2018, with Pesci getting done dirty, and Pacino surprisingly absent despite not hearing much of this film, it's a disservice to both actors that they are listed in a film they did not partake in, as if to gain a bigger audience by pretending they are.
I thought Travolta gave an insane performance, nothing felt forced by him, but pacing was absolutely an issue, one that can't be corrected or carried by an outstanding performance. I would've liked to see this film back in 2014, with Pesci and Pacino, but it's too little, too late, and just like Black Mass, this is a film I won't need to re watch, and will easily forget.
