Review of Gothika (2003) by Mike L — 21 Feb 2010
Gothika is about Dr. Miranda Grey, a highly respected criminal psychologist who treats dangerously disturbed patients like Chloe (PENELOPE CRUZ), an intensely charismatic and disturbed murderess whose confessions of satanic torture are dismissed by the Miranda as simply the meanderings of a paranoid mind.
Now Miranda wakes up inside the asylum where she had worked and is accused of killing her husband which she has no memory of doing. She is shocked and dismayed to discover that all the evidence points to her as the perpetrator. Strange things start occurring to Miranda in the institution, a ghost of a young woman who she has faint memories of, starts haunting her and she keeps having flashbacks of what really happened.
The movie moves along fairly well and Robert Downey Jr., Penelope Cruz, and Charles S. Dutton lend good support. Mildly entertaining!
