Review of Gothika (2003) by Josh J — 15 Mar 2010
An odd and often times disjointed hodgepodge of various better films. These days, however, that is sadly the case with most movies, so it shouldn't necessarily be faulted much for that...at least it's not a remake.
My biggest problem with this is that it didn't use the suspiscion of Berry's character at all. To me, it would seem more interesting if there was a strong sense that she actually had murdered her husband, but all along we know she didn't. The only surprise left would have been if she actuall had.
Also, the unsavory acts that her husband was committing seemed out of place here. It would've been fine in a different film, but this was not the place for it.
All in all, worthy of a rental, but not much more.
