Review of Gothika (2003) by Ben P — 27 Mar 2010
After seeing it has a 15% rotten rating my review will give it life it never had...maybe.
Gothika is by no means a classic, or anything orginal really. However despite a dull performance by Hally Barrey, the supporting cast truly make this film worth while. *SPOILERS*.
Once I figured out their were "two" killers I suspected the sheriff fairly easy, the other I suspected was Robert Downey Jr. If you notice in the film after she becomes "insane" for "Killing" her husband he sits at his desk I believe twice with a panic style look...and also has the same facial expressions and even dialogue while he talks to her once she is moved to another area of the prison. Props to Downey Jr. he never screws up!
The other is Penelope Cruz who I am NOT a fan of, I find her annoying, and very unattractive. However in this role she was mysterious, likable, and very curious. She obviously was written in the story as possibly a "lesbian" (if you notice how she acts).
This was a hard review for me as it's been a while since I have watched it but over all it is worth the rent.
60/100.
