Review of Gothika (2003) by Victoria P — 23 Oct 2011
Gothika isn't an awful horror movie; it has a few scares and creepy imagery, but there's not a whole lot to praise about it. The entire female prison movie is filtered in what I can only describe as "blah-blue" and while there are some good moments in cinematography, there are also some ridiculous ones too, including one continuous shot where the camera spins (if I remember correctly) 1080 degrees around Halle Berry that gets close enough to see the little CG hairs on her neck.
To its credit, I didn't correctly guess the twist ending and it has Robert Downey Jr., who brings credibility to whatever role he plays. I don't think you'll be missing much if you skip Gothika, but it's not like there aren't worse movies out there.
