Review of Gothika (2003) by Adam W — 21 May 2012
Gothika is a fairly predictable horror completely concentrated on women and their "thoughts and feelings".
Shot in a blueish lens with a clinical look that completely distances the viewer from the film. For the most part you are playing catch up waiting to see the murder scene that Berry is incarcerated for.
After some cliche ghost fight scenes, finally a rape dungeon is revealed, brilliant!
Unfortunately theres only one man who can pull that off properly - Alf stewart, and hes not in the film.
Finding out that Berrys husband was a horrible man and that he had a sidekick still in action is brought up and resolved within the last 10 mins. Too much too soon after the first 90 mins, a proper pigs ear of an ending.
