Review of Gothic (1987) by Satomi N — 26 Oct 2007
This was just weird. Basically, Percey Shelley, Mary Godwin (Mary Shelley-to-be), and her half sister Claire spend a night at Lord Byron's mansion, either high on opiates, drunk, drawn into group hysteria, or all three.
As the night progresses, they become more and more neurotic about this "creature," a supposed embodiment of their fears. Dialogue is awful, plot nonexistent, and while the surrealism of the situation and the overall decadence is my kind of thing, this is hardly a movie I'd recommend.
I only find Gabriel Byrne even half convincing as Lord Byron, the other three are terrible.
