Review of Gosford Park (2001) by Chris M — 23 Mar 2008
The acting is the highlight of the film, as is the photography, but the film itself is drawn out and not as interesting as it could have been. I liked some of the tricks the director used to drop hints about upcoming events and revelations, especially with Bob Balaban's character.
For me one of the problems was I hated almost all of the characters so much that I wanted all of them to get murdered, and was disappointed when only one did, cause they were such awful people. There were too many characters though, about a dozen guests and twice as many servants and their names were being thrown around like we were supposed to know who they all were within 20 minutes.
It's an interesting movie, but a bit too pretentious (It's an Altman film, what do you expect).
