Review of Gosford Park (2001) by Brandon B — 03 Mar 2009

There are some movies, no matter their craftsmanship, no matter how well directed, no matter how well acted, that just don't work. Gosford Park is one of them. I am a big Robert Altman fan - Nashville is one of my favourite movies - but all of his narrative techniques are saddled with one of the most boring murder mysteries ever written (screenwriter Julian Fellowes certainately didn't deserve to defeat Chistopher Nolan's Memento for Best Original screenplay in 2001) complete with equally boring characters.

There's no spark this time around, and we're left with a feeling of complete apathy by the time the credits mercifully roll by.
