Review of Gosford Park (2001) by River W — 16 Oct 2009
A savage period piece following butlers, valets, maids, cooks, and brutal aristocrats, as they each resolutely anguish through their weekend at a hunting party mansion. The rumors and drama are interesting enough to keep you hooked until the promised murder of the host.
This whodunnit is more of a who-didn't-do-it, as the viewer is well aware at the time of the murder. This is a joy to watch if you have the time for an admittedly lengthy stretch of pseudo unimportanc.
It is at the same time though a look at so many interesting and fleshed out characters in a setting we never see so embellished with authenticity. Way good!
