Review of G.O.R.A. (2004) by Kevin J — 22 Jul 2008
I'm sure I would have enjoyed this more if I understood Turkish, as it was obvious there was a lot of wordplay and verbal humour which wasn't coming over in the (poor) subtitles. Mildly entertaining overall, although boring for large stretches, cheap-looking, plotless, borderline racist, and with only one good joke.
In a dual role, Cem Yilmaz is much better as the baddie Logar than the hero Arif. Best thing about this was the gay robot. Surprisingly, not as good as the similar German film "Traumschiff Surprise" (which is itself pretty poor).
