Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Alex G — 20 Nov 2015

Surprisingly enjoyable, ordinary, and predictable, Goosebumps introduces the viewer to famous villains from the series, as well as its essence, while managing to entertain children and adults alike. Although it is not a movie to see and enjoy multiple times, Goosebumps fast-paced adventure will steal your attention from beginning to end.

Actors Jack Black, Dylan Minnette, and Odeya Rush turn a kids horror series into a light and fun adventure and director Rob Letterman brings in a huge amount of creepy creatures without overwhelming or damaging the story. A huge and very surprising accomplishment, if I may add. Throughout the movie many fictitious monsters from the Goosebumps series come to life and get loose in the real world by mistake and it is up to our three main protagonists, with the help of others (Not to be forgotten, Ryan Lee, and his sometimes try-hard jokes) to save the small fictional town of Madison, Delaware.

*Tiny spoiler ahead* At one point, all of this becomes overwhelming, and if there is a moment of suspense during the movie, is when you ask yourself how in the world are they going to save this little town in such a small amount of time. This moment is ruined however, when you realize R.L. Stine can write a little too fast.. Seriously. But by that time, it is too late. The movie has ended. Uhm, okay? That's it?

While Goosebumps begins with a strong story and likable characters, it develops into a fast-paced adventure where you start wondering about the editing of the movie and the script. It is as if the movie ends before it can inflict any serious damage to itself without taking into account a successful conclusion.
