Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Kenia V — 04 Feb 2016
A fun, flimsy adventure, made bearable by people who remember reading the books in their youth (myself included). The characters seem just about as "real" as the monsters that come alive from the books and while this isn't surprising for a family adventure film, it severely hobbles the "twist" that comes at the end. Because everybody is so paper-thin, the fact that Hannah is actually fictional doesn't touch us at all.
Did anybody notice that it wasn't Stine who had the power to make monsters real, but the typewriter?? When Zach finished the story, his words had the same effect as Stine's... So really the movie should have been called "The Tale of Magical Typewriter". It seems pretty irresponsible of them to just leave it in the school bookcase....
