Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Ryan C — 05 Jun 2016
Jack Black plays author R.L. Stine who can't control all the scary monsters he creates in his books, and it's up to Black and a few kids to save a small Delaware town when the characters escape from the pages of the novels and start terrorizing their town.
While the plot line might seem predictable, "Goosebumps" offers enough scary scenes for children while boasting fantastic CGI and special effects that adults will be impressed by as well as random dark humor that is quite funny.
Often, R.L. Stine was referred to as the "Stephen King for children" and the movie often makes reference to this. One of the funniest moments, I thought, was that Stine has to write a new book in the school auditorium that is currently set-up for the play "The Shining." Such a perfect Easter egg for adults.
As a child that grew up reading the "Goosebumps" series, this was a perfect way to bring the books back and showcase its top scary monsters!
