Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Jake M — 06 Nov 2016
Goosebumps (2015) - was a lot better than I was expecting. On the other hand it's not on the verge of being a great movie but regardless it managed to surprise me. I haven't read the books to be honest so my opinion might be a little biased and if someone has a problem with that then just deal with it.
First off, I love the visual effects they look spooky and ginormous. I always like it when in some movies they show fantasy and magical creatures causing ruckus and panic in a modern society and this is definitely a great example.
My biggest complement is the work they did on the puppet. He's kinda creepy and he was probably the best part of the movie thanks to his strange personality and his funny antics. The characters are sort of a mix bag but most of them are pretty good.
Jack Black as R.L Stine did surprisingly well for me I thought he was going to be annoying in this movie but actually had a good personality. As for the rest of the characters they do a pretty fair job at carrying the movie.
Although it has it's really good moments it also has it's really bad ones. I think the jokes are very lame or at least most of them there are a few times when I did laugh and there are some plot points that don't get explained a lot.
For me, I think the good moments overthrow the bad ones and I think this is a good flick to watch whenever Halloween arrives (B).
