Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Cindy M — 31 Oct 2015
I may have been the only kid who wasn't obsessed with the Goosebumps books. I love that category of horror comedy for kids, but when they were popular and everyone at school was reading them, I was little and probably thought I'd be scared.
That's not to say I completely abandoned them, because I did later on find some of the stories and the tv series to be entertaining, and this movie adds on to the cannon of Goosebumps in a good way.
Goosebumps is a fun monster adventure that has some good visual effects, a good cast, and a good score. Jack Black was a great choice to play R.L. Stein, and he brought the comedy and weirdness I was hoping he wood to the characters.
The action was fun, with some of the effects looking really good and bringing life to the monsters. Danny Elfman's score also helps bring the world of this movie to life. The humor was solid and the pacing was pretty good and the movie was much better than I thought it would be.
It was very entertaining and family friendly without being too stupid or overly awkward. This movie is a must for families and is a good introduction to horror for kids. Goosebumps fans will certainly get a kick out of this and it's a fun creature movie.
