Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Owen H — 13 Feb 2016
The classic Goosebumps books were a great introduction to horror, especially for me. And the film doesn't quite disappoint.
So in the plot we have a boy who moves in, unbeknownst to him, next to R.L Stine. Unfortunately all hell breaks loose as his books are unlocked and all his characters from the books come alive.
The CGI in the film is very good and the mix of horror and comedy work well together. Black's good too.
However, I really don't understand the 'deceased parent' subplot as so many films try to incorporate. It really doesn't add anything to the film and the pace is ridiculously fast.
So the film does offer some nice scares, but don't expect anything new or particularly exciting, but it is worth a trip to the cinema.
