Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Frederic C. B — 26 Apr 2016
The Good:
Fantastic concept. The movie can be funny, as well as scary at the right level. Slappy makes for a very scary villain. The twist about Hannah is fun and unpredictable. Great cameo by R.L. Stine himself.
The Not-so-Good:
The movie relies greatly on knowledge of the Goosebumps series, so it's hard for audience who are not familiar with them to understand the various monsters. Jack Black's performance sometimes feel a bit over the top and not quite believable. Some characters, like Aunt Lorraine and Champ are both fun but also annoying.
