Review of Goosebumps (2015) by Joe P — 06 Aug 2016
The score for this film is amazing. It was the first thing I noticed and it stays strong until the end. I didn't realize it was Danny Elfman until I looked it up. He's exceptionally talented.
The film is playful much like Jumanji. The characters are a little over the top, but it works for a kids film. The worst part has to be Jack Black's voice. If he didn't use that weird accent, he would have been perfect. But that's a choice he made that is hard to ignore.
The CGI is cartoonish. It works with the nature of the movie, but it isn't the best available. The actual likeness of the monsters to the books is great which allows the audience to give the cartoonish look a pass.
For such a playful movie, it isn't memorable. It's fun, but the impact is low. It is worth a viewing but you'll probably forget about it later that day.
